U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and ICAP at Columbia University announce the recruitment of participants for a new training program titled Eastern Europe Central Asia (EECA) Public Health Emergency management (PHEM) Training Program. The overarching goal is to contribute to the national efforts to strengthen health emergency management systems by building the capacity of in-country workforce to prepare for, respond to, and recover from public health emergencies efficiently and effectively.

 

The Program will bring together participants from Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Ukraine, and Uzbekistan. Program curriculum includes a blend of workshops, online mentorship and education courses, and networking.

 

The 2024 PHEM Training Program will run from September 2024 through March 2025. The Program will consist of three distinct 1-week, in-person training sessions, with mandatory two online sessions in between as per the tentative schedule below:

  • Module 1 (in-person): 23-28 September, 2024
  • Module 2 (online): October 2024
  • Module 3 (in-person): November 2024
  • Module 4 (online): End of January 2025
  • Module 5 (in-person): March 2025

 

Program content will focus on the following areas:

  • Public health emergency core operations
  • Communication, coordination and partnerships
  • Epidemic intelligence and analysis
  • Training and capacity building

 

By the end of the EECA PHEM Training Program, participants will have developed competencies in applying emergency management framework models to their home country, coordination, planning, communication, partnerships, training, and evaluation. Participants will apply knowledge received during the program to create country-specific plans, recommendations, and/or projects to strengthen country PHEM capabilities. Participants will join a network of PHEM professionals, fostering the exchange of knowledge and best practices.

 

Travel and accommodation during the workshops will be coordinated and funded by the EECA PHEM Training Program.

 

Eligibility Criteria

  1. Current full-time employment and at least two years of work experience in governmental sector with core responsibilities in PHEM, including surveillance, public health programs, and / or health communications.
  2. Fluency in Russian and/or English. An intermediate or higher level of proficiency in English is an advantage.
  3. Consent from the direct supervisor, as well as the head of the employing institution, to participate in the program, including allowing absence from the work during participation in all necessary program activities.
  4. Basic computer and software application skills.
