U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and ICAP at Columbia University announce the recruitment of participants for a new training program titled EpiTech: Data Modernization for Field Epidemiology. The overarching goal is to empower field epidemiologists in leveraging digital tools to enhance their work, consequently contributing to the overall improvement of public health within their respective countries.

The 2024 EpiTech Training Program will run from May through August 2024. The Program will consist of two distinct 1-week, in-person training sessions, with fieldwork and support activities conducted between the two sessions. The Program will bring together participants from Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Ukraine, and Uzbekistan. Program curriculum includes a blend of workshops, online mentorship and education courses, and networking. Upon graduation from the Program, participants will be expected to serve as technical mentors for FETPs in the region.

Travel and accommodation during the workshops will be coordinated and funded by the EpiTech Training Program. After graduation, technical mentors will also receive a modest performance-based financial compensation for their work. Additionally, they will have the opportunity to apply for small grants to support organizing cascade training on informatics and data science in their respective countries.

Eligibility Criteria

• Graduates of FETP (Intermediate or Advanced) or program equivalent
• Applicants must work full-time in the field of public or animal health in the countries of the EECA region: Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Ukraine, and Uzbekistan.
• Computer literate and well-versed in software such as MS Excel. Experience with programming languages (R, Python, SAS, etc.) and/or experience with GIS software is a plus
• Fluency in Russian or English is required, and at least an intermediate level of English is desirable.
• Ability and willingness to dedicate sufficient time to coach FETP residents in the region and participate in FETP mentorship activities.
• Consent from the direct supervisor, as well as the head of the employing institution, to participate in the program, including allowing absence from the work during participation in all necessary program activities.
• Strong interpersonal communication skills, effective problem-solving techniques, practicing logical structuring and encouraging critical thinking. Prior experience as a mentor is an advantage.
